West Texas grew up around the train, and the train still delivers visitors to Big Bend. The schedules are not the most convenient, but the vacation begins as soon as you take a seat in the city of origin.

altPassenger Train Service to Big Bend

Amtrak's Sunset Limited runs through Alpine 3 days per week running each way:  New Orleans, Houston and San Antonio from the east; Los Angeles, Tucson, and El Paso from the west. For complete schedule, click here , scroll down and click on "Sunset Limited".  Please note that AMTRAK frequently runs behind schedule. If you can  allow  extra time and be  flexible the train is an extremely rewarding way to see the countryside on the way to Big Bend.
