1. Marathon Motel & RV Built in the early 1940s, it sits on 10 acres with unobstructed views of the mountain sunsets and starry skies. Recently renovated, the motel consists of 10 rooms divided into four duplex cabins, RV Park, and campsites. 432-386-4241

2. Casa La Vista has full kitchen, fireplace, 2 bedrooms, one bath, patio and excellent views, all 3 minutes from lovely downtown Marathon  432 386-2222

3. Oasis Cafe nails down the 3 main West Texas food groups: burgers, mexican food, and chicken fried steak. Open for lunch on the west end of town on U.S. Hwy. 90. 432-386-4521

4. Marathon Coffee Shop  is open for delicious breakfasts and lunches. 432 386-4352

5. Desert Moon Spa services include massage therapy, facials, body treatments and extensive day packages. Try the eucalyptus steam room to shed tons of stress. Ninety-minute hot rock massages offer a peaceful opportunity to connect mind, body and soul, leaving you relaxed, centered and balanced. 432 386-4205

6. Eve's Garden Bed and Breakfast An urban hacienda in the high mountain desert. Sculpted of papercrete and strawbale, this hostelry is unique, with art, gardens, old world architecture, a hot tub, an indoor lap pool, a resident jewelry artist, an organic florist, and spectacular sunsets. 7. Gage Hotel was built in 1927, and in 1980 was renovated and reopened. The original brick building is a local landmark, now flanked by attractive additions. 8.  Ranch 616 at the Gage serves creative Texas food  with a full bar and ample wine selection. Closed until August 15 U.S. Hwy. 90. 432-386-4205

9. Johnny B's is an authentic 50's style soda joint right out of Happy Days. You'll find fountain drinks, burgers with all the trimmings, delicious deserts in a bright and lively atmosphere. Open Thursday-Sunday 11:30am-3:30pm 432 386-4233

10. Pitaya Verde offers vinatge collectible western clothing. Open Monday-Friday 3:00-6:00 pm, Saturday 10:00am-1:00pm and 3:00-6:00 pm, Sunday 10:00am-1:00pm

11. Front Street Books carries a complete selection of interpretive literature about the Big Bend area, as well as a wide selection of books about Southwestern subjects. Great browsing for avid readers and students of the area. U.S. Hwy. 90. 432-86-4249

12. James Evans Gallery - James Evans is a keen observer of the Big Bend, which is reflected in his fine B&W photography. The gallery also displays original works by other southwestern artists. 432-386-4366

15. Captain Shepard's Inn is a fully restored 100 year old two story adobe home built by the town founder. It has private baths and nice porches. The carriage house is equipped with a kitchenette. North Avenue D, 432-386-4241

18. French Company Grocery and general store.has a little bit of everything. Fresh produce, meats and fish, staple foods, traditional local foods, tobacco, Natural foods, domestic and imported beers/wines, champagne, hot coffee, hardware, first-aid, bicycle repair, picnic supplies, “to-go” sandwiches, hiking gear, health/beauty products. 19. Famous Burro    is open Wednesday through Sunday evenings from 5:00 to midnight. Dinner is served Wednesday through Saturday between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. Light fare is available on Sundays. 432 386-4100

20. Made in Marathon is a non-profit arts/crafts collective featuring locally made products as well as locally grown produce and baked goods. Open Thursday-Sunday 11 am-4pm

22. Shirley's Burnt Biscuit Bakery is home baked heaven, with donuts, pastries, cookies, cinnamon rolls and more, all fresh baked. U.S. Hwy. 90. Open Monday-Friday, 6:30 am- 1:00 pm; and sometimes Saturday.  432-386-4322

29. Stillwell Trailer Park and Hallie Stillwell Museum offers hookups, camping, gasoline and groceries. The Museum documents the life of Hallie Stillwell, a legendary ranching woman who moved to the area early in the century and lived a fascinating and full life near the border for over 80 of her 100 years. Take U.S. Hwy. 385 south from Marathon 38 miles, left on Texas Hwy. 2627 just before entering Big Bend National Park. 432-376-4309
