Home : Resources : Area Links The Big Bend and Texas Mountain country is a magnificent vacation destination, and a very large area to cover in one trip or on one single web site. We recommend that visitors check out these links of our regional neighbors, and visit them while in Big Bend. Be sure to check out the interactive map feature, and interpretive driving itineraries. Texas Mountain Trail is a regional tourism development project sponsored by the Texas Historical Commission. Check out their website for current information, suggested itineraries and traveler's personal comments about sites and attractions in the Texas Mountain Trail Region. Alpine is the hub of the Big Bend, home of Sul Ross State University and the Museum of the BIg Bend, and great place to stay over and enjoy eclectic shopping and dining opportunities . Fort Davis is the highest town in Texas, home of Fort Davis National Historical Site, McDonald Observatory, a variety of comfortable lodges, B&B's, restaurants, and interesting shopping. Marfa is home of the famous Marfa Lights, and is hotbed of fine art in West Texas. Marfa is also where the movie Giant was filmed, and is proud of historic Paisano Hotel and their newly restored Presidio County Court House. Presidio is the only port of entry into Mexico between El Paso and Del Rio, local attractions include Fort Leaton State Historic Site, Big Bend Ranch State Park, and Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, a thriving desert town of 40,000 dusty inhabitants. www.bigbendtourism.com is a new site with lots of interesting area information, history, culture, and links to visitor services in the various communities of the greater Big Bend.
